Frequently asked questions
I am unsure whether I am eligible for MESA. Should I still apply?
Yes. If you are unsure about your eligibility for MESA, then we still encourage you to apply. MESA staff will review your submitted interest form to determine your eligibility and contact you via email with an update.
What is a MESA Academic Excellence Workshop (AEW)?
An Academic Excellence Workshop (AEW) is a community of students learning collaboratively to master course material with the guidance of a student facilitator that has already taken the course and excelled in that course. MESA collaborates with Hornets Tutoring (embedded tutors) to host AEWs for Math, Chemistry, and Biology gateway courses. AEWs are designed to enhance learning by focusing on collboratively problem solving the difficult elements of the course. Furthermore, AEWs foster an environment where you demonstrate the ability to perform, achieve, and/or excel.
Where is the STEM Center located?
The STEM Center is the home of the MESA program.
What can I use the STEM Center for?
You can use the STEM Center for studying and tutoring (individual and group study space), computer lab workspace, and multipurpose meeting space. The STEM Center has a makerspace with a 3D printer and a laser cutter. Feel free to reserve a time slot in the makerspace so that you can learn how to 3D print and laser cut. The STEM Center also has a lounge area for you to rest and relax on comfortable couches (with pillows and blankets) as well as board games for you to have fun. MESA students can store books and personal belongings in a dedicated space, so that you do not have to carry these items around campus. The STEM Center has a small fridge, microwave, and Keurig coffee maker for you to use.
If I am not in the MESA program, then can I still use the STEM Center?
All students are welcome to use the STEM Center. You do not have to be in MESA to use the STEM Center.
